Acute stroke unit

The acute stroke unit on Chaldon Ward is devoted to delivering specialist stroke care. The unit includes a fast track bed dedicated for rapid treatment following a stroke.

When a stroke strikes, 1.9 million neurons are lost every minute. Prompt assessment and early diagnosis is critical to patients commencing on the appropriate treatment pathway to ensure the best possible outcomes.

If you are passionate about providing excellent care, you could be part of an integrated and dynamic multi-professional stroke team.

Our nursing staff forms a significant part of an enthusiastic and caring team who take pride in our holistic and compassionate approach to providing care. Nursing teams work closely with the multidisciplinary team to promote timely recovery and safe discharge.

All staff have the opportunity to access a variety of educational and skills-based study days to build up knowledge.

We have a strong core of experienced clinical mentors to enable new staff to work through and achieve their hyper acute stroke care competencies.
