The Acute Medical Unit (AMU) has 33 short stay beds, 7 assessment trolleys and an ambulatory assessment area.
AMU is staffed by an enthusiastic team specialising in the assessment and treatment of acute medical patients in a short-stay setting. The nursing team works closely with the acute medical team and on call teams to ensure that the assessment and initial treatment of a patient’s presenting condition is timely and efficient.
The patient pathway through the unit is rapid, allowing for a continuous flow from the Emergency Department into the specialist ward areas.
The unit offers a good opportunity to learn new clinical skills and develop professionally. Due to the range of presenting conditions in acute medicine, a broad general knowledge in this field should be gained. All of our staff are able to access a variety of educational and skills-based programmes.
