Education, learning and development

Our aim is to support your personal and professional career development through our offering of an extensive range of training and development opportunities.

Induction

When you join SASH, you will attend our MAST Core Induction within your first six weeks at the trust. Since Covid-19, all of our MAST training is being conducted via live webinar and e-learning. The induction aims to welcome all new employees to the trust, and ensure that you have all the mandatory and statutory training that you need to undertake your role. The day will contain information on our values, our approach to equality and diversity, information regarding data security awareness, skills you can use in conflict situations and sessions on safeguarding children and adults.

If you are a clinical member of staff, you will also be required to attend a clinical induction which will include topics such as; pressure ulcers, nutrition, dementia awareness, blood transfusion, etc. This will be followed by a local induction in your local ward or department.

Mandatory and statutory training

We are committed to supporting staff with their statutory and professional obligations to keep their knowledge and skills up-to-date, reduce the risk of injury to themselves, and to keep our patients safe. Much of our mandatory training is available via e-learning, and we also host live webinar training updates nearly every week.

Development opportunities

We offer a number of in-house programmes, ranging from personal effectiveness through to leadership and management skills.

Some of the courses on offer are:

  • Assertiveness
  • Communicating excellence
  • Wellbeing and resilience
  • Achievement review training for managers
  • Confident conversations for managers
  • Introduction to coaching skills
  • Lean for Leaders
  • Band 6 ready
  • Cannulation
  • Mentorship updates
  • Literacy and numeracy

We also offer apprenticeship development programmes from Level 2 (GCSE) to Level 7 (Master’s Degree) in a wide range of subjects.

Funding for professional development

Staff can apply for individual bursaries to support their professional development on external courses.
