We are always happy to discuss potential job opportunities with anyone who is interested in playing a part in our vital service whether the interest is in a permanent post or on our Phlebotomy Bank. It is a great opportunity for someone who is interested in pursuing a career in healthcare and would enjoy contact with patients. Equally, we welcome applications from those who enjoy working with the public, are compassionate and are committed to giving patients a good experience.
Our phlebotomy staff are trained to a very high standard with ongoing personal development through appraisals and personal development plans, technical workshops and assessments.
Sites and opening hours
At SASH we have a team of around 30 phlebotomists and cover a 7 day service. As East Surrey is an acute hospital, staff are required to work some weekends to ensure that we cover the service.
The Phlebotomy department is located across three sites:
• East Surrey Hospital
• Crawley Hospital
• Horsham Hospital
The service is managed by the phlebotomy services manager with support from two phlebotomy supervisors, one based at East Surrey and the other at Crawley Hospital.
East Surrey and Crawley Hospitals
The blood test departments are open from 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday, except bank holidays. Patients do not normally need to make an appointment but certain times are busier than others so wait times can vary.
Patients are seen in order of arrival but there may be exceptions where a patient will be given priority. The last patient is seen at 4:45pm.
An appointment is required for a blood test at Horsham Hospital and the department is open between 8am to 3:45pm Monday and Tuesday, and 8am to 12pm Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (except bank holidays).
