Pathology Reception

What do we do?

Pathology Reception

We are a small team of Medical Laboratory Assistants located in the Pathology Specimen Reception in the Pathology Department at East Surrey Hospital. The service we provide is essential for the smooth running of the laboratory.

We process approximately 2,000 samples each day. The samples come from patients visiting the Emergency Department at East Surrey Hospital and from both inpatients and outpatients being treated at East Surrey, Crawley, Horsham and Caterham Dene Hospitals. We also receive samples from GP surgeries in Surrey and Sussex.

We provide information and advice to patients and their representatives and to other healthcare professionals, either over the telephone or face to face. Additionally, we also play a key role in the processing and despatch of samples for trials and clinical studies undertaken by the Trust’s Research & Development Team.

It is essential for the efficient working of the hospital that we do our job accurately and within turnaround times in order to ensure the very best outcome for our patients.
