Book in one hand, cup of tea in the other. As part of the Surrey Reading Challenge the local public library service provided a collection of fiction for NHS staff to borrow from the East Surrey Hospital library over the summer.
The challenge ran from July 15th until September 14th and any member of staff who read six fiction or health and wellbeing books from the hospital library during this time was entered into a prize draw.
Monica Porebna, a nurse on Hazelwood ward was the winner, she was presented with a book bag containing ten new paperback books and a certificate by hospital Chief Executive Michael Wilson on Wednesday (9.10.13).
Monica said: “I definitely enjoyed the reading; it was good to have books available so that close to work in the hospital library.”
She added: “English is my second language, so reading helps me expand my vocabulary. I read for both enjoyment and learning, but with good books on tap learning is effortless.”
Rachel Cooke, Head of Library Services said: “Thank you to everyone who took part in the challenge.”
