A cancer patient at East Surrey Hospital has had a very special marriage blessing after staff helped him organise the event in just 3 days.
Ron Haughty and Rumesa Amer, his partner of 4 years, were joined by family, friends and staff at the ceremony in the hospital’s multi faith chapel recently (May 18).
The Earlswood couple got engaged 2 years ago and with Ron back in hospital for the fourth time this year the pair decided they needed something nice to look forward to.
Rumesa, 52, said: “We wanted to do something to make us happy and confirm our commitment to each other. The staff have all been brilliant, they made us feel so special and couldn’t do enough for us.”
Ron said hospital chaplain John Glasspool moved mountains to make the ceremony happen, the hospital’s catering staff provided a celebratory meal and cake and the Tilgate ward staff decorated Ron’s room with balloons and banners.
The 59 year added: “Nothing has been too much for all the staff, they are a fantastic bunch. With everyone’s help the service and atmosphere in the chapel was amazing – I didn’t want to leave.”
