Staff from East Surrey Hospital and local bereavement support charity – The Brigette Trust, came together on Saturday, 21 May for a remembrance service commemorating the lives of people who have died whilst in hospital.
Relatives and friends of those who have recently passed away were invited to attend a special service, conducted by hospital chaplain John Glasspool, to remember loved ones through readings, music and the laying of a flower or pebble in the chapel or the hospital’s garden of tranquility.
Elaine Edwards, clinical nurse specialist, said: “This was the third non-denominational service we have held at the hospital and feedback from those that have attended has been very positive.
“It is important that people from all religions and beliefs can come together to celebrate the memory of those they loved. This service allows some quiet time for those who want to reflect on memories that are personal to them. However, we also know that as part of the healing process some people need to talk and some take the opportunity to meet others who understand what it is to lose someone they love.”
The next service of remembrance will take place at East Surrey Hospital on 26 November. For further information please contact:
