Now in its third year, NHS Fab Change Day is an opportunity for people in the NHS to demonstrate the simple things changes they are doing and the difference they are making.

SASH is pleased to support NHS Fab Change Day and proud of individuals and teams across SASH involved in change and ensuring that we continue to deliver high quality services to the people we care for through making.

In 2015, SASH became one of just five hospital Trusts across the country to be part of an exciting partnership with NHS Improvement and the Virginia Mason Institute in America. Known as the safest hospital in the US, the team from Virginia Mason are sharing and teaching our clinicians the principles and systems that have made them so successful in delivering safe high quality care.

Our transformational SASH+ programme of change currently has three value streams:

cardiology-rpiw-team-photo-webCardiology inpatient flow: Getting the flow of inpatients right is key to better clinical outcomes, reduced length of stay, improved patient experience and improved quality of care for patients. We have started in cardiology as this team have recently had £4.5m of investment with two new state of the art angiography labs and the team want to be in top quartile nationally for how they deliver care.

outpatients-breast-clinic-rpiw-webOutpatients: The Trust sees more than 310,000 outpatients every year making it the area of the organisation that has more ptients contacts than any other. In our Care Quality Inspection (CQC) inspection in May 2014 this was an area that was rated as requiring improvement so we know we have got some work to do to get this rating to outstanding.

mgmt-of-diarrhoea-workshop-webManagement of diarrhoea:  This is an issue that we know has a significant impact on patient experience and can happen in all areas of the Trust. Infection control is a high priority for our Trust and we thought this would be a good area to focus on.

Each value stream as a team of clinicians, non-clinicians and patients who come together to develop ideas and improvements to change and transform the care we provide. Every member of the team has a vital role to play and is involved in change that makes a difference to our patients and the people we care for.

Ideas to Innovation Factory

Every day our staff will see opportunities to make changes in the way they work how care is given. Some of these changes may involve signifianct evaluation and assessment before being implemented; many other ideas are simple changes that can be put in place quickly to improve patient care, efficiency and patient experience.

Since it was introduced in we have been able to introduce many changes and to involve our staff in being part of this positive change.
