Briefing for Pregnant Women and Families
For the first time in the history of midwifery, the Royal College of Midwives (RCM) will be taking industrial action.
A national ballot has been held and on Monday 13th October 2014, industrial action will take place. This will be in the form of a four hour stoppage between 07.00am and 11.00am.
Representatives from the RCM and midwifery managers have worked together to ensure that contingency plans have been put in place. This will ensure that essential services can continue throughout this time.
It is intended that during the stoppage, the service provided is similar to the service provided on a bank holiday.
Ensuring safety for women and babies is, and must be our first priority. Any changes to the service will be of minor disruption and midwives remain committed to safe care and positive experience for women.
Your lead midwife will be able to explain the local arrangements during this time and please feel free to approach her with any questions you may have.
