If a caesarean birth has been recommended for you and your baby, or you have made an informed choice to have a planned caesarean, we aim to make this a positive birth experience for you as we would in any birth environment.

The Evergreen Midwifery Team is a small team of midwives and nurses who will meet you at your caesarean birth.  They will discuss your individual birth preferences and choices which may include:

  • Soft theatre lighting;
  • Screen dropping to view the baby (ies) birth;
  • Partner cord cutting;
  • Skin to skin contact
  • Delayed Cord Clamping
  • Music

You will be given specific advice around preparing for your caesarean birth along with your appointment letter which will be sent to you before your scheduled caesarean date.

The information which is sent to you will inform you on what to expect, how the day will proceed and have information about ward times and recovery.

Your Pre-operative appointment will also be included in this letter, this appointment will be with a member of the Evergreen Team.  This is usually within three days of your operation.  At this appointment you will be provided with pre-operative medication, an antenatal check will be completed and pre surgery blood tests.

A member of the Evergreen team a will meet you on the day of your caesarean birth on Rusper Ward – the arrival time will be confirmed to you in your pre-operative appointment – They will be with you for the birth and immediate postnatal period.  You will also meet your Anaesthetist and Obstetrician before your caesarean, who will be with you in theatre and performing your surgery.
