The gynaecology department at Surrey and Sussex NHS trust offers a range of services including general gynaecology, early pregnancy assessment and emergency gynaecology assessment. The trust also has a Women’s centre at Crawley hospital consisting of colposcopy, hysteroscopy and fast track diagnostic services.
The inpatient gynaecology ward is a 13 bedded ward located on Brockham ward at East Surrey hospital.
Patients with suspected cancer will be fast-tracked under the two week rule to the gynaecological fast-track clinics, held at the Women’s Centre in Crawley Hospital and East Surrey Hospital.

Brockham Ward is a 13-bedded, female-only unit with one side room, which is reserved for infection control purposes and cannot be pre-booked.
We are a multi-specialty unit, with a primary focus on gynaecology. The ward is connected to the Gynaecology Assessment Unit and the Early Pregnancy Unit.

Our Gynaecology Assessment Unit (GAU) provides 24-hour emergency care for patients with urgent gynaecological concerns. Patients are seen via referral from the Emergency Department or primary care services.
The unit is located within the Early Pregnancy Unit on Brockham Ward.
What to Expect

Patients are seen on a triage basis, with an aim to be assessed within two hours of arrival.

Due to the sensitive nature of the department, we kindly ask that children and babies do not accompany patients to the unit.

The Gynaecology Outpatients Department is located on the second floor of the Magenta Zone in the Aldrich Blake Unit, alongside the Antenatal Clinic.

Our team includes five healthcare assistants, who support doctors during clinics, as well as clinical nurse specialists, who attend specific clinics on different days.
