Follow-up screenings after a LLETZ treatment is very important and is usually performed at the GP surgery six months after the treatment.
Sometimes a follow-up colposcopy is recommended instead. The screening sample is tested for HPV and if negative, the woman may be returned to routine recall. The follow-up time and interval varies according to the grade of abnormality.
A follow-up after an abnormal biopsy result may be done at the GP surgery or at the colposcopy clinic. The aim is to check if the abnormality has resolved over time.
