The Trauma and Orthopaedic team provide specialist treatment for injuries of the bones whether congenital or acquired disorders of joints. Procedures performed include hand, foot, ankle, spinal, shoulder and elbow surgery, total hip and knee replacements, resurfacing, and revision. The Trust is a tertiary centre for reconstructive surgery. The team also treats the associated soft tissues of the bones including, muscles, ligaments, and nerves. The department provides a high quality 24 hours Trauma and multi-disciplinary orthopaedics service.
Paediatric patients under the age of 12 requiring elective orthopaedic surgery are assessed by an orthopaedic surgeon from St George’s Hospital, Tooting, who holds a clinic at East Surrey Hospital. Children may then be referred back to one of the SASH surgeons for treatment.
