We do not simply treat a child’s condition, but care for them as a little person and support the family as a whole.
The paediatric service comprises:
- Consultant-led clinics – Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
- Orthoptic clinics – Daily. Covers Crawley, Horsham and Redhill sites.
- Refraction clinics – Monday and Tuesdays at Crawley hospital.
Miss Weston and Miss Parvizi run paediatric clinics at East Surrey, Crawley and Horsham hospitals and also support the paediatric refraction clinic based at Crawley Hospital. They manage and treat medical and surgical paediatric eye conditions. Complex oculoplastic referrals requiring surgical input are referred to Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead.
Surgery for children is performed at East Surrey Hospital.
The Orthoptic team support all Consultant-led clinics, and have standalone clinics throughout the week. Orthoptists manage amblyopia (lazy eye) and eye movement disorders.
The refraction clinic is led by a senior orthoptist and optometrist, experienced in working with children. In this clinic children will have an orthoptic assessment followed by a glasses check, which may require the use of drops to dilate the child’s pupil.
