The Trust’s thoracic medicine team is part of the Surrey and Sussex Cancer Alliance and so patients diagnosed with lung cancer, who need oncology treatment, are referred by our thoracic consultants at the St Luke’s Cancer Centre, at the Royal Surrey County Hospital, Guildford. Patients are seen at East Surrey Hospital and the oncologist can then arrange treatment at St Luke’s Cancer Centre. This centre carries out the majority of lung cancer chemotherapy and all of the radiotherapy on the Trust’s lung cancer patients.
We have recently launched the lung Rapid Diagnostic Pathway for suspected Lung Cancer (RDPLC). Patients are referred by their GP for a chest x-ray which will reported on the same day. If the x-ray shows an abnormality, a CT scan, bronchoscopy or a CT-Guided biopsy of the lung may be required.
