Mr. Murali Bhat is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a special interest in hand and upper limb surgery. He also has an interest in forefoot surgery. Mr Bhat completed his orthopaedic residency programme from a Premier Institute in Bombay, India. He arrived to the United Kingdom in 1995 and did his orthopaedic training from Northern Ireland between 1995 and 2000, specialising in trauma management including gunshot injuries. He then went to Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham to specialise in hand surgery and did a Fellowship for 12 months. Following this, he spent nearly a year in the Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth, specialising in shoulder surgery. Mr Bhat was appointed to the Surrey and Sussex Healthcare Trust in January 2005.
During his basic and hand surgery training, Mr. Bhat undertook research into the management of wrist problems including distal radial fractures, scaphoid fractures, carpal dislocations in the wrist and shoulder problems including frozen shoulder.
As a Consultant in Hand and Upper Limb Surgery at the Surrey and Sussex NHS Trust, he now offers a comprehensive service offering the management for complex Hand, wrist and elbow conditions. He has a team that includes Hand Therapists, Rheumatologists, Neurologists, Anaesthetists and Plastic Surgeons.
