What to bring in

Most women and babies stay in the hospital for less than 12 hours, therefore you need only bring enough clothes and other personal items for a day or so.

  • Loose-fitting comfortable clothing (about three changes of clothes)
  • Two/three comfortable/supporting bras, including nursing bras is you plan to breastfeed
  • Super-absorbent sanitary towels
  • Wash bag (toothbrush, hairbrush, flannel, soap, tissues, other toiletries)
  • Towels
  • Sponge / water spray
  • Personal items (books, magazine, music, massage oil, camera, lip balm)
  • Loose fitting or front opening top/nightie if you are going to breast feed
  • Dressing gown and slippers
  • Five or six pairs of pants
  • Loose/comfortable clothes to wear home
  • Clothes for the baby, including a hat
  • Nappies and cotton wool
  • Shawl/blanket for the baby
  • Muslin squares
  • Formula milk for those choosing to bottle feed
