Birth Centre

A picture of a new birthing room with a pool

The Birth Centre provides a comfortable, private, environment for healthy women in labour with straightforward pregnancies, who could opt to have a home birth, but choose to come into hospital. The service provided in the Birth Centre is in line with the service that would be provided at home. Although alongside the Delivery Suite, the Birth Centre is equipped to run self-sufficiently on a day to day basis.

The Birth Centre has:

  • A lounge area with facilities for making refreshments, a TV and a selection of books and information for women and their families
  • Four birth rooms, each with a pool and all en-suite
  • Piped entonox and oxygen is available in all birth rooms
  • A consultation room for antenatal appointments/triage, fitted out to the same standard as the other birth rooms to enable its use at times of high demand

“The whole Birth Centre set-up at East Surrey is superb – It resembles more of a spa than a perceived birthing suite. The midwives who run the unit are all fantastic and make the entire process as comfortable as possible.”
