Early Pregnancy Unit

The Early Pregnancy Unit (EPU) supports women up to 16 weeks of pregnancy with concerns such as vaginal bleeding, abdominal pain, history of recurrent miscarriages (two or more consecutive miscarriages), or ectopic pregnancy by appointment only.

Referrals to the EPU are made by the ultrasound department, GPs, emergency department, and midwives.

Patients can self-refer for advice through the Telephone Triage Clinic.

The unit is open Monday to Friday for booked appointments only.

Telephone Triage is open weekdays 9am to 1pm, for a healthcare professional to answer your call and advise.

Outside of these times, an answer phone service is available. Messages left after 1pm will be checked and you will be contacted the next working morning.

If you are bleeding heavily, soaking through more than two pads per hour, or in severe pain please attended the accident and emergency department.
