General diabetes clinics

Our diabetes consultants see patients with Type 1 diabetes, including patients using insulin pumps, and also patients with Type 2 diabetes, including patients requiring insulin initiation and with more complex management problems. Many patients with uncomplicated Type 2 diabetes can be managed in primary care by their GP.

We treat all adult patients within the Trust’s geographical area, however, children, aged under 16 years, with diabetes are treated by the paediatric team. Our diabetes consultants hold joint adolescent clinics with the paediatric consultants for diabetic patients aged 16-19 years old.

Our three consultants in diabetes are also endocrinologists.

They are currently involved in a national study into type 2 diabetes, entitled PRIBA (Predicting Response to Incretin-based Agents) – an observational study to evaluate factors that may help predict patients’ response to some of the new diabetes medication, when these are used as part of normal diabetes treatment.

All GP Referral Letters, except those referred though the Choose & Book System or Two Week Rule method, should be sent direct to:

Outpatient Booking Office
East Surrey Hospital
Canada Avenue
Redhill RH1 5RH

Please do not send these direct to a consultant, medical secretary or any other department. You can of course make the actual outpatient referral letter out to a specific consultant. The Outpatient Booking Office is responsible for processing ALL referrals for outpatient appointments which then initiates the patient’s 18 week RTT status.

Outpatient Referrals made under the TWO WEEK RULE method should be faxed immediately to 01737 231733.
