A kind hearted grandma has returned to East Surrey Hospital with a thank you gift for the staff who looked after her granddaughter.
Lynne Stalker, from Crawley, donated a breast pump to the hospital’s Neonatal Unit and brought along granddaughter Laney to meet the team who cared for her.
The toddler was born in May 2012 at the Earlswood hospital, which is run by Surrey & Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust. Arriving 7 weeks early she spent a month in the specialist baby unit.
Lynne said: “Laney would not be here if it wasn’t for the staff on the unit and we just wanted to say thank you. They were all so good and so helpful and it’s lovely to be able to give something back to them.”
Because Laney only weighed 2lb 11oz when she was born the family decided they would collect £2 coins and in just 18 months collected an impressive £1,450.
Lynne added: “It was such a simple and easy thing to do and I wanted to buy a breast pump because I know how often the mums use them.”
Ingrid Marsden, Neonatal Specialist Lead Nurse at the Trust, was delighted to see Laney and her family again. Ingrid said: “We are so grateful for their gift. We encourage every mum to breast feed so having another pump for them to use is really lovely.”
