Despite the wintery weather it was a busy morning for the Endoscopy team at East Surrey Hospital on Saturday (23) when they opened the doors of their state of the art unit to the public.
A steady stream of people were met by the specialist doctors and nurses who were keen to explain what they do, answer questions and show people the equipment.
Visitors were taken on a tour of the unit, watched doctors using simulators, and got the chance to talk to a dietician as well as colorectal and inflammatory bowel experts.
Former patients who had had procedures came along as well as those who are waiting to come in and wanted to find out more before their appointments.
Consultant Gastroenterologist Dr Gary Mackenzie said: “We were asked a lot of varied questions about what happens, the equipment we use as well as disease specific questions and the simulator was virtually in constant use.”
