The Diabetes Masterclass held at East Surrey Hospital is a yearly event held mostly for GPs, practice nurses, junior doctors and diabetes specialist nurses. This year we hosted the ever popular event in our new Postgraduate Educations Centre, and it was a full house with over 100 GPs and practice nurses at the event.
The Diabetes team at SASH are helping to facilitate collaborative working on research participation across primary and secondary care and this was the focus of a presentation by Dr Ben Field, Consultant Endocrinologist at SASH and Ian Gray, Primary Care Research Network (PCRN) Hub Manager. Their presentation on research highlighted how current diabetes research studies were helping to support the clinical management of diabetic patients and how the local Research Network could assist Primary Care centres in becoming research active. This event was a great success in bringing people together to discuss improving patient care through research participation. The diabetes team at SASH are currently recruiting patients to three diabetes research projects which aim to provide valuable new information about the management and treatment of diabetes:
DARE: Diabetes Alliance for Research in England
ADDRESS 2: an incident & high risk type 1 diabetes research cohort -After Diagnosis Diabetes Research Support Systems-2
PRIBA: Predicting Response to Incretin Based Agents
