Trust CEO and local business owner open new Children’s Day Procedures Unit at East Surrey Hospital
Today East Surrey Hospital unveiled its newly transformed Children’s Day Procedures Unit, marking a significant milestone in the hospital’s children’s services.
The project, which began in March, was made possible through the generous support of SkinSense founder and CEO Abi Cleeve. The company based in Redhill donated £12,000 to SASH Charity – the charity for the Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust - earlier this year as part of its’ children’s appeal.
The unit, which now cares for young patients having day surgery and elective procedures, was re-purposed to help create a dedicated area for paediatrics last November.
Thanks to the heartwarming donation from SkinSense, it is now a much more welcoming, vibrant and child-friendly environment for young patients undergoing treatment at East Surrey Hospital and their families.
The opening event took place on Friday 10 May 2024, and included a tour of the new facilities as well as a ribbon cutting ceremony during which Trust Chief Executive Angela Stevenson thanked Abi Cleeve for her donation.
Chief Executive Angela Stevenson said: “The transformation of the Children’s Day Procedures Unit will help ensure our youngest patients get the treatment they need in the right environment for their care needs.
“We are incredibly grateful to Abi for her support and generosity in helping to make this space the best it can be for all those who come through our doors. It’s also a brilliant example of the work our charity does with donors and those in our community every day to improve the lives and experiences of our patients and those that work with them.”
Abi, expressing her delight at the successful completion of the project, remarked: “It is wonderful to receive thanks but it is us that want to say a HUGE thank you to all the staff for the incredible work they do. I hope we can encourage more local businesses to support the ever-growing and very vital list of improvements, big and small, that can make all the difference to the children, parents, and staff in our community.
"I would urge all local businesses to look at what they can do to help and support the hard work of these amazing people. My team have loved being a part of this project and most importantly to give children and young people a space that is more welcoming and comfortable whilst they undergo treatment.”
