NHS Trust introduces free RSV vaccine for pregnant women

Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust (SASH) is proud to announce that starting Monday, 23 September 2024, all pregnant women will be offered a free vaccine during each pregnancy to protect their babies from respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), also known as bronchiolitis.

The RSV vaccine will be available at East Surrey Hospital, Crawley Hospital, and Horsham Hospital through our antenatal clinics (ANC). RSV is a common virus that can lead to serious respiratory illnesses in newborns, and this vaccination offers an effective way to reduce the risk of infection.

Rosemary Idaghe, Director of Midwifery at SASH, emphasised the importance of this new initiative:
"Protecting unborn babies from the Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) will provide that added peace of mind for our service users and their families, ensuring a healthy start to life for their babies."

Pregnant women can choose to receive the vaccine from 28 weeks pregnant.

How to book your vaccine:

  • Visit the ANC reception desks.
