NHS Trust introduces free RSV vaccine for pregnant patients

Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust (SASH) is proud to announce that from today, 23 September 2024, all pregnant patients will be offered a free vaccine during each pregnancy to protect their babies from respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), also known as bronchiolitis.

The RSV vaccine will be available at East Surrey Hospital, Crawley Hospital, and Horsham Hospital through our antenatal clinics (ANC), and will be available from week 28 of pregnancy. RSV is a common virus that can lead to serious respiratory illnesses in newborns, and this vaccination offers an effective way to reduce the risk of infection.

Rosemary Idiaghe, Director of Midwifery at SASH, emphasised the importance of this new initiative:

"Protecting unborn babies from the Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) will provide that added peace of mind for our service users and their families, ensuring a healthy start to life for their babies."
