Meeting a... Tobacco Dependency Advisor
Who are you: Justyna Seebaluck
Summarise your role: I am a Tobacco Dependency Advisor for acute adult inpatients and my role is to help patients to give up smoking - with behavioural support, alongside advising on nicotine replacement medications to increase their chances of stopping successfully. I work with patients during their inpatient stay to engage them with an appropriate tobacco dependency treatment pathway and support these individuals after discharge to ensure a smooth transition to community stop-smoking-services where appropriate.
What do you find challenging about your role: Helping patients reframe their approach to their smoking behaviour is one of the most challenging but also rewarding aspects of my job.
What do you find rewarding: The most rewarding part of my job is building relationships with our patients and helping each of them reach their end goal of quitting smoking, as well as seeing how stopping smoking helps them gain confidence and become healthier and wealthier.
What do you enjoy outside of work: Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my family, friends and my cats. I love nature and being outside but I also like to play video games when I'm at home. I like how fast paced video games are, and I enjoy a little healthy competition with my friends for higher scores – I find this also helps me learn and grow so I can be the best version of myself.
