Who are you?
Chloe Lapsley
Summarise your role.
I am a senior pharmacy technician responsible for conducting drug histories for patients, ordering medicines and carrying out medicine reconciliations. This is important as it ensures medications are prescribed safely and patients take them correctly. I also work in the main dispensary, where I process and label prescriptions while completing the final check of processed prescriptions before the medications are sent to the patient.
What do you find challenging about your role?
It can be difficult to acquire sources of information when carrying out drug histories. Some patients are unable to tell you what they take as they get help with their medications from relatives or carers, or they don't bring in their own medications. It's a case of working around this to get all the right information as to not incorrectly record the history and therefore prevent the patients from getting the wrong medicines.
What do you find rewarding?
Talking to patients has always been my favourite part of the job. I especially like talking to the elderly as a friendly face and a nice chat is sorely appreciated. It always shows on their big smiley faces, which melts my heart every time. I also love the fact that I can leave work knowing I've contributed to patients' safety while they are staying with us and that they are getting the most out of their medications to live a healthier life.
What do you enjoy outside of work?
I love listening to loud metal music, sitting down with a cup of tea and a good video game, which is pure relaxation to me. I also like to spend time with family, as family to me is absolutely everything.
