Meeting a... Senior Communications Manager
Who are you: Pareeta Nayee.
Summarise your role: I lead and deliver communications campaigns across our SASH channels and support with the development, implementation and evaluation of communications strategies and projects that support SASH’s corporate objectives. My role encompasses media relations, project management, content creation, corporate communications, patient information and FOI. My background is in digital communications, so I still like to dabble in video creation / editing and HTML coding. The main priority is to promote and protect SASH’s reputation and brand.
What do you find challenging about your role: A lot of what we do is reactive, and the nature of the work is pressured with tight deadlines. At times it can feel like we are firefighting with little scope to work on new, exciting, and creative ideas.
What do you find rewarding: Sometimes, due to the nature of communications work, it’s not obvious to see the link between what we are doing and the impact it is having, particularly on our patients. However, during COVID, I felt proud of the work the communications team produced, supporting staff and the public with obtaining the latest information and challenging certain (viral) trolls on social media! Knowing we made a difference is rewarding. Supporting and seeing those I manage develop and grow is also incredibly rewarding. I’m also co-chair of the SASH CICSN (previously BAME network) and creating a safe space for staff to share their concerns as well as working together to try and drive real change around inclusion and diversity at SASH is something I’m passionate about.
What do you enjoy outside of work: I love travelling, learning about different cultures, their food and their customs - Iceland is on the list this year! I’m at my happiest eating good food and drinking nice wine with my loved ones. I’m a bit of a history buff and might be a bit obsessed with anything Lord of the Rings-related (or that genre in general). I enjoy yoga, long walks, watching films (did anyone else cry their eyes our watching Past Lives) and getting cosy with a good book and a big cup of chai!
