Meeting a... Nursing Assistant
Who are you: Silvia David-Andor.
Summarise your role: I am a Nursing Assistant in our paeds surgery and day procedure unit -ensuring that every patient goes through the surgery process as smoothly as possible. My main role is to ensure that every patient is taken care of. This means that I carry out tasks such as observations, handing out food and drink, and also ensuring that the environment is as clean and as entertaining as possible.
What do you find challenging about your role: Sometimes it can be quite challenging to see patients being put under general anaesthetic, especially if they are very young and are understandably upset about the process. However, I do try my very best to comfort them and let them know that everything is going to be okay.
What do you find rewarding: I love seeing patients come in with an issue, and then seeing their relief once it’s resolved. I feel like my team and I have had a positive impact on that child’s life in some way.
What do you enjoy outside of work: I love reading, going to the gym and spending time with my boyfriend.
