Who are you?
My name is Leena and I am the medication safety officer and lead pharmacist for governance.
Summarise your role?
My key roles are to:
- promote and guide the safe use of medicines across the trust
- encourage and support the medication incident reporting in the trust via Datix to ensure that effective reporting and learning is achieved
- work with the MDT to reduce the number and severity of medicines related adverse events throughout the trust by identifying and implementing new systems of work.
What do you find rewarding about your role?
Seeing positive patient feedback on their stay at SASH! Therefore, knowing they have received excellent and safe care is a good feeling.
What do you find challenging?
National drug shortages really impacts the whole trust as it can mean that critical medication unavailability impacts patient care and safety. Thankfully, we have a pharmacy team who work tirelessly to ensure medication is available and alternatives are sought.
What do you enjoy outside of work?
I have two young boys who keep me on my toes so being a mum and going for walks and exploring our environment is fun!
