Who are you?
Hollie Roberts – acute learning disability liaison nurse.
Summarise your role.
My job role is ensuring equal access to healthcare for people with a learning disability in an acute hospital setting. This includes supporting people as inpatients, outpatients and for planned admissions.
What do you find rewarding about your role?
Supporting someone to be understood and advocated for, when in hospital, so their needs are met via reasonable adjustments is incredibly rewarding. Being creative to make sure the people we support have medical interventions, recover well and have a safe discharge is the best outcome.
What do you find challenging?
The role can involve having challenging conversations with professionals and networks and providing education around the mental capacity act and best interests processes, to make sure least restrictive practices are followed.
What do you enjoy outside of work?
Outside of work I enjoy playing netball, reading and cross-stitch.
